Frequently Asked Questions

There are many questions that come up when you or a loved one are admitted to a medical facility. We hope the answers to these frequently asked questions will help answer some of your questions. If you still have questions, please telephone us at (415) 600-6000.

What are visiting hours?

Family Members and friends are always welcome to visit. Our official visiting hours are 11:00 am to 8:00 pm. However, these times may vary depending on medical necessity. Please check with the nursing unit you are visiting.

Please do not smoke in patient rooms or anywhere in the Medical Center. Smoking is permitted only in those areas identified by posted signs.

People with colds, sore throat or any contagious diseases should not visit patients.

How do I send a card to a patient?

Send all correspondence to the attention of the patient to the appropriate hospital address and campus. It is important to always indicate the room number and put the patient's first and last name and on the envelope.

How do I telephone a patient?

Call (415) 600-6000 and ask for the patient by name. Privacy regulations, require a patient's first and last name before connecting a call to a patient's room.

When are the gift shops open?

The gift shops are open Monday through Friday. The hours vary on each campus. They have a limited supply of personal items, flowers, greeting cards and gifts.

When is the hospital cafeteria open?

The cafeteria hours are the same on each campus.

Hours:
Monday through Friday
Breakfast 6:30 am - 9:30 am
Lunch 11:30 am - 1:30 pm
Dinner 4:30 pm - 6 pm
The Salad Bar is available from 11:30 am - 6:30 pm

Saturday and Sunday
Breakfast no service
Lunch 11:30am - 1:30 pm
Dinner 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm

There are no public cafeteria services available on the East Campus.

The Pacific Campus cafe, located in lobby, is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Vending machines are available 24 hours daily. They are located near the cafeterias.

Visit our Peet's Coffe Cart in the Main Lobby of each campus. Open 6:30 am - 2 pm.

Where can I obtain health education information?

First review any questions or concerns with your physician. After speaking with your physician there are several places you can obtain health information. These include:

    I am concerned about hospital services, where can I find help?

    Call the Patient Relations Department at (415) 600-3280; they will be able to assist or can direct your concerns to the proper party.

    How can I find a Chaplain?

    Call the Chaplain's office at (415) 600-3660. They are available for bedside consultation and guidance. To reach the on-call chaplains during off-hours, nights and weekends, dial the hospital operator and ask to have the on-call chaplain paged.
