Public transportation is the best way to travel in San Francisco as parking is at a premium. The Muni bus and Street Cars cost $1.25 for adults, $ .35 for seniors over 65, children 6-17 years old, and the disabled. Muni is free for children under 6 years of age. Exact change is required. Upon boarding, request a transfer, which is good for two additional rides within a two-hour period. Taxicab charges vary depending on distance and traffic. Charges start at $2.85 upon entering the cab and the rate is $ .45 per waiting minute and $ .45 for each 1/5 of a mile.
