Please send me more information on the Breast Health Centers.

Early Detections Saves Lives

Early detection is the best defense against breast cancer and an annual mammogram is one of the most effective breast cancer screening methods available today. Our goal is to find cancer at the earliest stage to help patients live long and healthy lives. The American Cancer Society recommends that women age 40 and older have a screening mammogram and clinical breast exam annually; breast self examination is optional for women age 20 and older.

Full Range of Diagnostic Services

Breast Health Centers, located at the California Campus and the St. Luke’s Campus, provide a full range of diagnostic and support services. These two convenient locations make our centers easily accessible to serve your breast health needs. Caring for over 50 thousand women annually, we perform:
– screening and diagnostic mammography
– diagnostic breast ultrasound
– ultrasound-guided breast core biopsy
– ultrasound-guided cyst aspiration
– stereotactic breast core biopsy
– needle localization procedures.
– MRI-guided core

Preparing for Your Mammogram

On the day of your mammogram do not apply talcum power or deodorant in the breast or underarm area. These products can alter the quality of the mammogram.

A sterile cotton gown is provided for your privacy. However, for your convenience, we recommend wearing a two-piece outfit as the mammogram procedure requires removing the top half of clothing only.

Breast Health Center Imaging Services

• Screening Mammography - Annual mammograms to detect any overall change in the appearance of breast tissue. Appropriate as an annual check-up for women without breast symptoms.
• Diagnostic Mammography - A series of breast images provide a more comprehensive and detailed view of the breasts. Appropriate for women with a prior history of breast cancer or a new breast symptom.
• Breast Ultrasound - Use of sound waves to evaluate palpable breast lumps in conjunction with mammography.
• Ultrasound-Guided Breast Cyst Aspiration - Ultrasound technology helps physicians remove fluid from a breast cyst.
• Ultrasound-Guided Breast Biopsy - Ultrasound technology to guide physicians in obtaining a small tissue sample for pathologic evaluation.
• Stereotactic-Guided Core Breast Biopsy - Mammography and a computer guidance system help physicians obtain a small tissue sample for pathologic evaluation.
• Needle Localization Breast Biopsy - Mammography helps physicians locate and mark the area of concern preoperatively for the surgeon.
• MRI Guided Core Breast Biopsy - Advanced imaging technology, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), guides the physician in obtaining a small tissue sample for pathologic evaluation. This is especially helpful when subtle signs of cancer cannot be seen on mammography or ultrasound. (Available at the Pacific Campus and St. Luke’s Campus.)
