da Vinci Urologic Surgery - Minimally Invasive Urology Options
Surgeons have increased dexterity, precision and control when performing urologic procedures using the DaVinci Robot – which translates to better outcomes for patients. But while the goals of robotic surgery are often similar to open surgery, the advantages of robot-assisted surgery to treat prostate cancer, for example, are many.
Urologic procedures are performed through tiny incisions and robotic-assisted visualization. The DaVinci robot is controlled by a urologic surgeon from a console in the operating room, just a few feet away from the patient. A second surgeon remains at the patient’s side to assist.
Because the incisions made are smaller than in traditional (open) surgery, there is significantly less blood loss, leading to a quicker recovery. Most patients are able to resume normal activities within two weeks after the operation.
