An older adult with serious mental illness may suffer from an array of physical and emotional problems. Depression or anxiety can be aggravated by infections or prescription medications, for example. With these complexities in mind, California Pacific Medical Center's Geriatric Psychiatry Services specializes in comprehensive inpatient care provided in a secure, home-like setting. We provide full diagnostic and treatment services to the patient and offer support and assistance to the family.

  • An individualized care plan to alleviate psychiatric problems that are treatable and to manage problems that are progressive.

    Admission Criteria

All referred patients are screened for admission by our Psychiatry staff and Medical Director. In general, patients must meet three criteria:

  • Have a primary psychiatric diagnosis requiring acute inpatient treatment.
  • Be able to participate in the therapeutic setting and treatment program.
  • Be 55 years or older, or have problems common to the older adult.

  • Patients with chronic medical conditions will be admitted but those with acute mental illness requiring intensive medical care must be treated on a medical unit.
