Bowel preparation is necessary since gas or stool in your lower rectum will interfere with the ultrasound picture.

Bowel Preparation:
1. For two weeks prior to your procedure, do not take any products containing aspirin, or ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil, Nuprin), or naproxen (Aleve), or ketoprofen (Orudis). Discuss alternative medication options with your physician.

2. Start on a clear liquid diet 24 hours prior to your scheduled procedure. Take no milk or milk products.

3. Take 10 ounces of Magnesium Citrate according to the bottle directions, at 4:00 pm the day prior to your exam.

4. After midnight before your procedure, take nothing by mouth, including water or prescription medication, unless otherwise instructed by your anesthesiologist.

5. The day of your procedure take a Fleet enema one hour prior to your arrival time. If needed, additional bowel preparation will be completed at the hospital.
