Newborn Connections™ offers classes, support groups and tours for new and expectant parents. These offerings are designed to increase your knowledge and confidence as you prepare for the birth of your baby and life beyond.
Advance registration is required for all classes - make sure to register early to ensure your place. You should plan on completing all of your classes approximately four to six weeks before your due date.

Understanding Pregnancy eClass $60
This interactive online class covers essential information on your baby’s development, helpful tips for a healthy pregnancy, and includes partner tips throughout. You’ll see how your baby develops with 3D animation and have access to helpful trackers and checklists that help you stay organized and healthy. Allow 2-3 hours to complete.

Childbirth Preparation E-Class $90
This interactive online course covers essential information on labor and more, and highlights ways partners can help throughout the process. You’ll also get a sense of what labor is really like as you watch several birth stories. You’ll even have an opportunity to create your own birth plan! Allow 4-6 hours to complete.

Breastfeeding Class eClass $60

Childbirth Preparation Class: Essentials of Childbirth – In this 6 hour class expectant mothers and their birthing partners are invited to learn the essentials of childbirth preparation. Our one-day class is informative, practical and designed to help you understand the birthing process while providing tools for creating a positive birth experience. In a safe, non-judgmental environment, we incorporate hands-on practice, lively discussion, videos and demos to help you feel more confident and prepared. Please arrive 15 minutes before the class begins. Pregnant mothers are invited to bring their birth partner or a support person. Bring lunch or a snack and wear comfortable clothes for practicing positions. Fee: $60 per couple.
Prenatal Yoga Single Class This 90-minute class includes meditation, visualization, breath practice, yoga poses to safely stretch and strengthen the whole body in preparation for labor and birth, deep relaxation, and discussion. Classes are designed to help mothers connect with their developing babies, increase comfort and fluidity in their rapidly changing body, and alleviate common discomforts of pregnancy such as back pain, sciatica, swelling, anxiety and fatigue. Maternity Tour @ California Campus – Follow an experienced guide for a tour of the Labor/Delivery and Post-Partum units. Receive information on where to go upon arrival, what to bring/ what to leave behind, and answers to all your logistical questions regarding your hospital stay. Fee: FREE
Maternity Tour for a planned Cesarean Section -Follow an experienced guide for a tour of the Women’s and Children’s Center and Post-Partum units. Receive information on where to go upon arrival, what to bring / what to leave behind, and answers to all your logistical questions regarding your planned cesarean section hospital stay.
Breastfeeding Class – This 3 hour class discusses the benefits and basic techniques of breastfeeding; how to prevent, recognize and manage potential difficulties; and considerations for partners. Offered as a onetime class. Fee: $75 per couple.Childbirth Preparation Express – This 3 hour class is a condensed version of our Childbirth Preparation Intensive and includes signs of labor, when to call your doctor, normal progression of labor and birth, pain coping techniques such as breathing and relaxation, pain medication options for all stages of labor, medical procedures, cesarean birth, and the role of your support person(s). Fee: $95 per couple.
Childbirth Preparation Intensive – This 8 hour class provides comprehensive information on pregnancy, labor, and delivery. Learn from our experts, ask questions, and practice what you learn! Class includes a review of pregnancy development, signs of labor, and pain coping techniques for all stages of labor, labor comfort and breathing techniques, medical procedures (including pain control, labor augmentation and interventions), newborn procedures, and postpartum care. Fee: $225 per couple.
Expectant Fathers Only – This 3 hour class is designed especially for fathers-to-be. Topics and group discussions include helping your partner through pregnancy and childbirth, caring for a new baby, balancing work, parenting and maintaining a healthy relationship. While we encourage partners to attend most classes, the Expectant Fathers Only class is designed specifically for fathers-to-be. Fee: $70.
CPR and First Aid for Infants - Infant CPR and First Aid is a 2.5 hour course that focuses on how to recognize and respond to the most common medical emergencies for infants. In this class you will learn when to call 911, how to perform CPR and how to respond to choking emergencies, seizures, drowning, head trauma, and allergic reactions. This class utilizes state of the art feedback mannequins for real-time assessment. Please note that this is NOT a certification course. Fee: $60 per individual (includes course materials). Each participant needs to create an online account and enroll in the course separately.
Newborn Parenting – This 5 hour class provides survival tips for the early weeks with your new baby! Class includes information about normal newborn appearance and behavior as well as baby care basics with hands-on practice diapering, swaddling, and temperature taking, and bathing. Offered as a one-time intensive class or as a two part series. Fee: $110 per couple.
Pain Relief Options: Ask the Anesthesiologist – Learn about the pain relief options for childbirth at CPMC and receive answers to all of your medication questions directly from an anesthesiologist. This event is FREE.
Prenatal Yoga Series – 6 Week Series – Each 90-minute class includes meditation, visualization, breath practice, yoga poses to safely stretch and strengthen the whole body in preparation for labor and birth, deep relaxation, and discussion. Sibling Celebration – In this 1.5 hour class, future siblings are prepared for the new baby's arrival through games, stories and role-playing. Classes are offered and focused for 3 - 6 year olds. All siblings receive an "I'm a Big Sister" or "I'm a Big Brother" baseball cap and certificate. A parent must attend with his/her child. We recommend you attend close to your due date. Fee: $50. Additional siblings are $25.
Twins, Triplets & More – This 3 hour class is designed to give expectant parents basic information on raising twins or more including reassuring advice and practical considerations from an expert! Topics include important aspects of prenatal care, labor and delivery, feeding issues, and preparing home and family for the arrival of multiples. This class is a great complement to our Newborn Parenting class. Fee: $75 per couple.
Transition to Parenthood Series – These classes focus on changes in identity, changes in the couple relationship, and mood issues when parenting an infant. Each class looks at the normal range of changes to expect, with the goal of enhancing your knowledge and confidence as a parent and partner. Couples are encouraged to attend together. Each class may be taken individually.
Transition to Parenthood: Staying Happy as Partners When Becoming Parents – New parents often feel that their couple relationship suffers but there are things you can do to maximize your pleasure as parents and with each other. Learn the latest research on how to keep couple satisfaction high amid the challenges of caring for an infant and how to develop problem-solving strategies to cope with differences before they escalate. Fee: $40 per couple.
Transition to Parenthood: The Emotional Rollercoaster after the Birth of the Baby – Having a baby ushers in a range of emotions, some of them not always welcome or expected. This class addresses the “baby blues”, states of stress and overwhelm, and more significant experiences of postpartum depression and anxiety. Learn about the importance of your own emotional wellbeing in effective parenting. Coping strategies and available resources for support are discussed. Fee: $40 per couple.

CPR and First Aid for Toddlers – Toddler CPR and First Aid is a 2.5 hour course that focuses on how to recognize and respond to the most common medical emergencies for infants. Infant Massage – Come learn how to give your baby a full-body massage! Sharing loving touch with your baby builds attachment, respect and trust as you learn to calm, delight and ease fussiness in your little one. Massage enhances well-being, brain development, immune and nervous system health, circulation, digestion, relaxation and sleep and can relieve gas, constipation, colic and stress. And . . . it's FUN! Kari Marble, the instructor, is a certified infant massage instructor, prenatal and postnatal yoga and meditation teacher, massage therapist, and educator with a passionate specialization in the childbearing year and beyond. She has shared the joys of massage with hundreds of families since 2003 and is the mama of two very happily massaged children. Fee: $70 per baby and up to 2 adults.
Starting Solid Foods – A healthy, relaxed approach to beginning complimentary food for your baby. Find out how to tell when your baby is ready for solid foods. Learn which foods to offer first and which foods to avoid. Offered every 2nd Thursday of each month from 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm. Space is limited. Fee: $15
Baby Steps to Parenthood 0-3 – Parenthood can be a wild ride, especially during the first few months. Join other new moms and discuss the joys of motherhood as well as the anxieties of adjusting to new responsibilities and changed routines. Offered on Wednesdays for babies 0-3 months, from 11am-12:30pm, in the Newborn Connections Learning Center at 3698 California Street. No registration required. Fee: $5.
Baby Steps to Parenthood 3+ – Parenthood can be a wild ride, especially during the first few months. Join other new moms and discuss the joys of motherhood as well as the anxieties of adjusting to new responsibilities and changed routines. Offered on Mondays for babies 3+ months, from 11am-12:30pm, in the Newborn Connections Learning Center at 3698 California Street. No registration required. Fee: $5.
Breastfeeding Group: It’s Not Just About Breastfeeding! Stop by for this drop-in group and get tips and support for adjusting to life as a new mom. Ask your breastfeeding questions and more! Offered every Tuesday & Friday 10am – 11:30am (except holidays) in the Newborn Connections Learning Center at 3698 California Street. No registration required. Fee: $5.
Lactation Warm Line – You are home from the hospital and realize that you have a lot of questions! Maybe you’re not feeling confident about breastfeeding. It’s normal to have additional questions or need reassurance during the early weeks and even beyond. For breastfeeding related questions or reassurance, call 415-600-6243. Calls are returned Monday - Friday, 10am – 4 pm and Saturdays, 10am – 2pm.
Pregnancy After a Loss Support Group – If you are pregnant again after a loss, you may have unique emotional needs as you grieve your lost child(ren) while preparing for the birth of a new baby. Our support group addresses in a safe, open environment, the concerns of bereaved parents who have started another pregnancy or are considering a subsequent pregnancy. Please join us to share information, feelings and support with other parents who are pregnant after miscarriage, stillbirth or infant death. Partners are especially encouraged to attend. No registration required. These sessions are free-of-charge and located in the Newborn Connections Library at 3698 California Street.
Private Lactation Consultation – We recommend an individual appointment with a Lactation Consultant if you are worried about your milk supply; baby's weight gain; breast infections; have a premature baby; or other concerns. To schedule an appointment, call our Office at 415-600-2229.
Working Parents Support Group – Join other working parents with young kids to share the highs and lows of juggling a family and a career. Topics to include: Managing childcare, pumping and breastfeeding, sleep and nighttime parenting, and ways to stay connected to your child and your partner. Offered the first Saturday of each month, 10am - 11:30am. Cost: $5.00. Location: Conference Room ABC 3700 California Street, just off the cafeteria.

To register for prenatal classes before your baby's birth: Please use our secured Online Class Registration SystemIf you have any questions or difficulty completing your registration, please call Newborn Connections at 415-600-2229.
Cancellation/Rescheduling
For Prenatal Classes: You may reschedule or cancel any class up to one week prior to the start date. Changes or cancellations made less than one week prior to the class start date and 'no shows' on the day of the class will not receive any form of credit. All approved cancellations are issued as Newborn Connections credit only. This credit may be applied towards future classes, pump rentals, and store merchandise (nursing bras, baby clothes, etc).
For individual lactation consultations: If you need to cancel or reschedule, you must call us 24 hours prior to the start of your appointment. No shows without prior warning may be charged.
