During genetic counseling, skilled and specially trained genetic counselors provide information and support to individuals and families. They address concerns about birth defects or inherited diseases before or during pregnancy. Our genetic counselors are an integral part of the prenatal diagnosis team. Your genetic counselor is dedicated to providing you with personalized and focused care.

We will first discuss your family and personal health history to determine the chance that fetal disorders might occur. Based on this information, we present appropriate options for prenatal testing in detail, along with the benefits, limitations and risks for each procedure. Through the genetic counseling process, we keep in mind individual values and family goals, and support the choices you make surrounding prenatal testing. Many couples find that genetic counseling is helpful whether or not they decide to have prenatal testing.
