Doula Guidelines

Thank you for choosing to have your baby at California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC). We are proud to extend our services to you and your family. California Pacific has been rated one of the best hospitals in Northern California. We offer a nursing and medical staff whose goal is to give you excellent professional attention throughout your pregnancy, labor, delivery and post-partum periods.
We are here to provide the safest care for you and your baby in an environment that honors your desires.
If you are considering hiring a Doula (birth attendant) to offer you extra emotional support and coaching, please understand that the doula is an independent contractor and is not an employee of the hospital. Here at California Pacific, we have established some guidelines that are important to share with your doula. Please show them this guide and be sure to discuss any questions you might have with your physician or midwife during your prenatal visits.
Doulas may not perform any medical or nursing interventions during your stay at CPMC. This includes vaginal exams, massaging the perineum, interpreting information from the fetal heart rate monitor and manipulating intravenous fluids, pumps or medications.
We will work with you to achieve the outcome you desire. Providing you with experience, a safe environment, education and support is what we do best. Let us know how we can assist you.
Have a healthy pregnancy and we look forward to seeing you soon!
