Occupational Therapist

The Occupational Therapist assesses your functional limitations and designs a treatment plan to maximize your independence in daily living skills, work readiness and performance and leisure activities.

  • Teaches self-care and other activities of daily living.
  • Addresses and teaches body mechanics, strength, sensation, coordination and endurance.
  • Educates the patient in the use of adaptive equipment and prosthetic devices.
  • Evaluates home management, prevocational activities and social skills.
  • Participates in adaptation of physical and social environment.

    Physical Therapist

    The Physical Therapist assesses the patient's physical capabilities and strength, and ability to do functional activities.

  • Implements a treatment plan to improve functional mobility.
  • Identifies changes in strength, range of motion, balance, coordination endurance and muscle tone.
  • Teaches patients how to use prostheses, walking devices and wheelchairs.
  • Helps patients return to athletic activities.

    Hand Therapist

    The Hand Therapist is an occupational or physical therapist specializing in conditions affecting the hands and upper extremity. Working as a partner with your hand surgeon or physician they excel in the rehabilitation of conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome, repetitive stress injuries (RSI), fractures, crush injuries, amputations, reattachments, nerve injuries, tendon repairs, elbow reconstruction and arthritis.

    Providing a continuum of care that often starts within days of the injury or surgery and continues through to the patient's return to work or a productive lifestyle. A qualified hand therapist evaluates and identifies any problem relative to the upper extremities and can effectively treat and rehabilitate a patient utilizing specialized techniques for:

  • Management of acute or chronic pain.
  • Desensitization following nerve injury or trauma.
  • Sensory re-education after nerve injury.
  • Design and implementation of exercise programs to increase motion, dexterity and/or strength.
  • Splint fabrication for prevention or correction of injury.
  • Training in the performance of daily life skills through adapted methods and equipment.
  • Conditioning prior to returning to work.
