Specialized Outpatient Programs
Hand Therapy
The hand therapists at the Davies Campus Outpatient Rehabilitation department have extensive experience in treating repetitive strain injuries and vocational rehabilitation. We offer therapeutic procedures, modalities patient education and training, including a repetitive strain injury education program covering the elements of basic anatomy, computer ergonomics, and stretching and relaxation techniques.
The Davies Campus Hand Therapy Center specializes in rehabilitation of upper extremity trauma and post reconstructive surgery, as well as wound care, and custom static and dynamic splint fabrication. We have an expertise in maximizing the return of motion and function while protecting the newly repaired structures. This program works closely with the California Pacific Microsurgery Department, as well as many hand surgeons in the area.
The San Mateo Satellite Hand Therapy Clinic provides the full range of hand therapy services.

Unique Specialty
Hand Therapy is a subspecialty that emerged from occupational and physicial therapy in the 1970’s to specialize in the rehabilitation of the upper extremity. A licensed occupational or physicial therapist meeting the training and experience requirement in this clinical area may take the hand therapy certification exam to earn the title of Certified Hand Therapist (CHT). Learn more about Certified Hand Therapists from the Hand Therapy Certification Commission (HTCC).
California Pacific Medical Center has one of the largest number of CHTs on staff in California. The HTCC provides a directory to help you locate a CHT in your area. Working as a partner with your hand surgeon or physician, CHTs excel in the rehabilitation of conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome, repetitive stress injuries (RSI), fractures, arthritis, crush injuries, amputations, replantations, nerve injuries, tendon repairs, and joint reconstruction.
Hand Therapy is a unique and relatively new specialty with a rich history at California Pacific Medical Center.
The Davies Campus Hand Therapy Center and San Mateo Hand Therapy clinics emphasize rehabilitation of upper extremity trauma. Our program works closely with the California Pacific Microsurgery Department.
