Michelle Perro, MD, DHom
Integrative Pediatrician
Michelle Perro, MD, DHom is a skilled and insightful Integrative Pediatrician who cares for newborns to teenagers, and often works with their parents as well. Dr. Perro helps navigate the challenges of acute and chronic childhood illnesses, and offers in-depth assessments at both our San Francisco and Marin clinics. With the heart of an explorer, she has developed a multi-disciplinary approach that uses Western medicine, homeopathy, functional medicine, nutritional and herbal approaches.
Dr. Perro is board-certified in Pediatrics and has more than 30 years of experience in emergency rooms, hospitals, community clinics and in private practice. She graduated cum laude from Yale University, and from Mount Sinai School of Medicine with honors in Medicine and Pediatrics. She was Director of the Pediatric Emergency Department at New York Medical College’s Metropolitan Hospital in East Harlem before relocating to the Bay Area. For ten years she served as an Emergency Room physician at Oakland Children’s Hospital. She also has been a Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at UCSF, and has published and lectured on many topics in her field.
Dr. Perro's extensive Western clinical background is matched by her knowledge of several integrative approaches that enables her to treat the whole person rather than to simply address symptoms. She studied nutrition, and received her diploma in homeopathy from the Institute of Natural Therapy in New York. She also studied homeopathy in private practice with Ifeoma Ikenze, MD, a nationally recognized homeopathic physician and author. Through an extensive intake process, Dr. Perro selects the appropriate homeopathic, nutrition or herbal therapy. Homeopathic remedies are made from natural sources and are regulated and approved by the FDA, and are compatible with conventional medicines. Dr. Perro's patients have had excellent results following her recommendations, offering parents natural ways to help their children.
She treats a wide range of conditions including:
- infant issues such as persistent crying, reflux, sleep disorders and colic
- environmental issues including asthma, food allergies and intolerances, and travel medicine
- behavioral challenges including aggression, prolonged tantrums, school problems, as well as ADD/ADHD, anxiety and phobias, and autistic spectrum disorders
- childhood health challenges such as chronic ear infections, vaccine issues, sports injuries, tonsil and adenoid problems
Dr. Perro also gained valuable experience in community-based clinics, serving children and families facing challenging health conditions. She speaks fluent Spanish and is a board member of a local non-profit organization committed to reducing childhood exposure to household and environmental toxins. Dr. Perro is often described as respectful, caring and thorough; her wise and warm nature has made her one of Marin’s most sought after physicians.
