Michael Cantwell
Nationally Recognized Integrative Physician
Michael Cantwell, MD, MPH is the Co-Lead Integrative Medicine Physician of our clinic. He is also one of America’s most knowledgeable people on the subject of integrative medicine. His deep and broad experience allows him to negotiate complex combinations of complementary treatments with great facility and ease. Michael sees patients for integrative assessments, guided imagery, and western herbal therapies.
Michael is a board-certified pediatrician, a specialist in pediatric infectious diseases, and holds a Masters Degree in Public Health (MPH) in Epidemiology. Michael has also been trained in meditation, hypnosis, guided imagery, and biofeedback, as well as in the use of dietary interventions, nutritional supplements, and (Western) herbal therapies. Michael has a special interest in the impact of nutritional and herbal therapies on immune function, the resistance to infection and allergies. Energy-medicine techniques in which Michael has been trained include Reiki, Therapeutic Touch, Aromatherapy, and Flower Essence Therapy.
In addition to his work at our Research Institute, Michael has conducted research studies with the Division of Geographic Medicine at Stanford University and with the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta, Georgia. He has published studies in The New England Journal of Medicine, The Journal of the American Medical Association and The Journal of Infectious Disease. He serves on the National Advisory Council for Complementary and Alternative Medicine at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. Michael received his Medical Degree from the State University of New York at Upstate Medical Center.
Michael sees patients with a wide range of conditions and situations. Conditions he commonly addresses include Asthma, Attention Deficit Disorder, Cancer, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Dermatitis, digestive disorders, Fibromyalgia, heart and vascular diseases, Multiple Sclerosis, occupational stress, Sinusitis, and a variety of pediatric conditions.
