Kaz Shibao
Feldenkrais & Orthopedic Massage
Kaz Shibao is a certified Feldenkrais Practitioner and Hendrickson Method Orthopedic Massage Therapist. He offers movement-based therapies at our San Francisco clinic, using directed touch and micro-movements to re-educate the body to move with greater ease.
Kaz identifies activities and dynamic postures that contribute to physical discomfort or pain. His nurturing and gentle approach encourages movement habits to change. By paying attention and focusing on the body, dysfunctional movement patterns are interrupted and new ways of moving more efficiently are revealed.
Kaz’s primary goal is to assist his patients in widening their range of movement options and improving functional actions. He also recommends physical activities and exercises to complement an individual’s current exercise program. Kaz has extensive experience in Japanese martial arts, yoga, resistance training and office ergonomics.
Kaz sees patients with the following conditions:
- orthopedic conditions such as joint or soft tissue dysfunction (from overuse, misuse or underuse), pre- and post-surgery including joint replacement, arthritis, nerve impingement, and injuries from falls and accidents
- pain management conditions such as fibromyalgia, chronic pain and repetitive strain injuries
- functional mobility issues and finding optimal postures
- neurological conditions such as post-stroke, spinal cord injury, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s
Kaz teaches two weekly Awareness Through Movement® group classes which are a supplement to his private sessions of Feldenkrais and Orthopedic Massage in the clinic. The classes provide a rich program of movement lessons that improve one’s ability to move more efficiently and effectively.
