Clinical Pastoral Education
Since 1965, our Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) program has been fully accredited by the National Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, Inc. (ACPE)*. CPE provides a rich environment for learning at California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC). We are a nationally renowned not-for-profit medical center with four acute care campuses in San Francisco, California.
Our multicultural, interfaith CPE program is an integral part of the Institute for Health & Healing, one of the largest integrative medicine and holistic health programs in the country. As part of CPMC's mission, the Institute is deeply committed to educating theological and religious students, community clergy, and professionals in the art and science of spiritual care.
The CPE program brings students into supervised encounters with people in spiritual need - from crisis and long-term illness to celebrating the birth of a child or a successful surgery. By reflecting on these encounters, students develop a deeper awareness of themselves. Students also cultivate interpersonal skills by working on medical center teams and receiving feedback from peers and supervisors.
