You are unique, so the services and therapies we recommend will depend on your particular needs and wishes, drawing from a combination of Western medicine and proven healing practices from around the world. It’s all about living better with deep and enduring health practices.

Some people come to us with a condition for which conventional medicine may not have all the answers. Others would like to complement the care they are already receiving. And some are simply interested in exploring different approaches to wellness and prevention. Whatever the state of your health may be, we can guide you to changes you can make and actions you can take, and we will support you in putting your choices into practice.

Serving the Whole Person

Scientific research continues to show that better health can be as straightforward as what you eat, how you use your body, the way you think, work and play, how you interact with others and how you handle life’s challenges. It can go as deep as making fundamental changes to your life and it can begin with something as simple as a soothing skin and body treatment.

Our philosophy embraces the idea that the body’s innate healing abilities are supported through the four pillars of self-care: nutrition, physical activity, relaxation, and social and spiritual connections. It recognizes individual differences in goals, priorities, timeframes, strengths and weaknesses, and personal preferences.

Individual Assessment

Our first step is often to review your diagnosis with an integrative medicine physician or nurse practitioner to ensure that the appropriate conventional care, referral, or support is in place. We then work with you on a thorough assessment of your situation in order to create an individualized plan. This review covers personal and family medical history, as well as issues that affect your health in less obvious ways.

Many of the characteristics that make you unique—the foods you tend to crave or dislike, your sleeping habits, your relationship to family and work—all contribute to your unique health profile. In your assessment, our doctors begin to uncover the roots of your problem to chart a course for your journey toward better health.

Rigorous Science

Our programs use an evidence-based approach so that the latest
scientific knowledge is a part of your care. We are a physician-led
hospital department that includes many Western-trained practitioners who are also experts in complementary therapies. The Research Institute at California Pacific Medical Center is studying a multitude of complementary therapies and publishing the research results in established medical journals. The Research Institute has received major funding from the National Institutes of Health for research in complementary therapies and is at the forefront of establishing scientific proof of healing practices. The Research Institute also evaluates the Institute’s services on a regular basis to ensure the highest quality care is provided.
