Going Beyond Medicine
In addition to having a multidisciplinary team, a big benefit to your patients is that all our services are located in one place, on our Pacific Campus—lab testing, radiology, cardiologists, surgeons, stereotaxis and catheterization equipment, cardiac rehabilitation, etc.
California Pacific is also the only hospital in the San Francisco Bay area to have a dedicated nursing unit for VAD and heart transplant patients. There are two nurses for every five patients at all times. The nurses have been specially trained and, in turn, help train patients and their families for life after discharge — how to respond to an emergency, how to use the mechanical device computer and batteries, do sterile dressing changes and shower and keep the machine dry. Because patients are in the hospital for a longer period of time, the unit has private rooms and a family room outfitted for patient and family’s use with exercise and video equipment, movies and even a garden, created by a former patient’s wife.
As part of the heart failure program, we have a pulmonary hypertension clinic. At the clinic, we evaluate and initiate treatment of pulmonary hypertension patients with WHO functional class II-IV symptoms. We offer all currently available medical treatments and ongoing consultative support.
When you refer a patient to us, we can see your outpatients in consultation within one week; your critically ill patients can be transferred immediately.
If patients require an overnight stay in San Francisco, CPMC offers several suggestions.
Hotel Kabuki and Holiday Inn Golden Gateway offer special CPMC patient room rates. CPMC provides courtesy shuttle service, Monday through Friday, between these hotels and CPMC’s Pacific Campus. Patients can travel from the Pacific Campus to other CPMC Campuses using the CPMC shuttle system.
Information about room rates, amenities, transportation and reservation instructuctions as well as other suggestions are on our Visiting Us-Local Lodgings page.
