Colorectal Center of Excellence
California Pacific's Colorectal Cancer Center of Excellence (COE) emphasizes clinical quality and comprehensive services, which result in excellent surgical outcomes. We offer a patient-focused approach while adhering to nationally recognized evidence-based guidelines. Annually, our team provides medical and surgical management for more than 150 colorectal cancer patients.
Colorectal Cancer Expertise
As a Center of Excellence, we have strong collaboration among our health professionals. Team members include, Board-Certified Physicians, Clinical Nurse Practitioners, Cancer Nurse Navigators, Nurses, Palliative Care Providers and Social Workers.
Patient Support and Navigation
To support patients during their colorectal cancer diagnosis and treatment, California Pacific offers patients and their healthcare team unlimited access to a dedicated Colorectal Cancer Nurse Navigator. This nurse meets with all individuals undergoing care, providing them with a better understanding or their disease and preparing them for treatment.
The Nurse Navigator offers personalized support throughout one's trajectory or treatment, including:
- Education on what to expect prior to, during and after colorectal cancer surgery
- Tools necessary to manage post-operative side effects and symptoms
- Appointment coordination to ensure timely access to care
- Supportive service referrals, such as health psychology, social work, Institute for Health and Healing, genetic counseling and physical therapy.
Additionally, the Colorectal Cancer COE offers regular education classes and support groups for the different stages of cancer care.
Survivorship and Long-Term Care
Survivorship and long-term care is as important as active treatment. As part of our comprehensive offerings, the Colorectal Cancer COE provides patients with the necessary tools to transition care back to their primary care physician. The Nurse Navigator assists with patients by completing survivorship care plans, which include:
- Future cancer prevention and screening
- Monitoring for long-term medication side effects
- Summary of cancer care and the providers involved in treatment
Colorectal Cancer Tumor Board
The Colorectal Cancer Center of Excellence holds monthly Tumor Boards to discuss current cases. The goal of these care conferences is to determine the best course of action for each colorectal cancer patient. Attendance from a team of cancer specialists and collaboration among these doctors results in the best treatment for each individual case.
New, investigative techniques for treating colorectal cancers are being explored through the California Pacific Medical Center Research Institute (CPMCRI). Physicians work closely with the Research Institute. CPMCRI offers clinical, basic science, and translational research, including chemotherapy clinical trials.
