Fellowship Programs
The Department of Ophthalmology at California Pacific offers two clinical and one research fellowship each year. The fellowships in glaucoma and retina are offered through the San Francisco Matching Program.
Glaucoma
The glaucoma service offers one position yearly but will not offer a fellowship for the year 2007-2008. The program director is Marc Lieberman, M.D. Fellows participate in resident education, grand rounds, local journal clubs and national educational meetings, in addition to their clinical duties.
Retina
The retina service, directed by Everett Ai, M.D., offers a two-year position every other year. Fellows develop clinical, research and surgical skills by working with members of the retina faculty. Fellows are involved in many ongoing research activities and actively participate in the department's teaching program.
Research
The department offers a 4-12 month long fellowship in ophthalmologic research. The pre-residency research fellow, in conjunction with the faculty at California Pacific Medical Center or with Smith Kettlewell Eye Research Institute may design studies in clinical or basic science research. Support for projects and research travel is provided by the department through the Pacific Vision Foundation.
