Educational Opportunities
The Community Health Resource Center is committed to supporting the needs of the community by holding frequent educational events. The ongoing lectures take place both inside California Pacific Medical Center, as well as in neighborhoods throughout San Francisco. CHRC is very fortunate to have outstanding speakers, many of whom are internationally recognized for their outstanding achievements in the field of health care. Most presentations are made by physicians who donate their time to present important information related to prevention and chronic disease states.
Joseph H. Friend Laparoscopy Education Center
Advances in laparoscopic surgery in recent years allow physicians to use the minimally invasive technique for more procedures than ever before. Using a laparoscope versus traditional open surgery offers benefit to both the patient and the physician. Patients experience less pain and scarring, fewer risks of complication and significantly shorter recovery time. In order to assist patients in finding information about laparoscopic procedures, support from generous donor Joseph Friend allowed CHRC to establish the Joseph H. Friend Laparoscopy Education Center, located at the Community Health Resource Center. The Laparoscopy Education Center has a range of publications, information on CD-ROM, and printed materials dealing with laparoscopic procedures, as well as Internet access to allow further research.
