Radiation Oncology - Brachytherapy
Innovative Radiation Oncology Treatment Options
Although whole breast irradiation has a long track record of success in preventing breast cancer recurrence, if breast cancer is diagnosed early and has not spread to lymph glands, we have achieved similar success with short-course and partial-breast radiation therapy, as well as breast brachytherapy in select patients. We work with you to determine if this is a viable alternative to treating your breast cancer.

Many patients who have had cancer surgery experience an accumulation of lymph fluid, called lymphedema. Health care professionals with special training in lymphedema therapy can help control this sometimes serious condition.

Breast Health Screening and Diagnosis Services
Leading-edge digital mammography technology helps identify and diagnose breast cancers sooner.
Mammography
Annual screening mammography detects any overall change in the appearance of breast tissue. Screening mammograms are appropriate as an annual check-up for women without breast symptoms.
Diagnostic mammography provides a series of breast images for a more comprehensive and detailed view of the breasts. Diagnostic mammograms are appropriate for women with a prior history of breast cancer or a new breast symptom.
Breast Ultrasound
A breast ultrasound uses sound waves to evaluate palpable lumps, detect cysts and solid tumors not found by mammogram alone and may be performed at the time of a diagnostic mammogram evaluation if the radiologist determines that this test will add valuable information.
Ultrasound-Guided Breast Biopsy
Ultrasound technology to guide physicians in obtaining a small tissue sample for pathologic evaluation.
Ultrasound-Guided Cyst Aspiration
Ultrasound technology helps physicians remove fluid from a breast cyst.
Stereotactic Core Biopsy
Mammography and a computer guidance system help physicians obtain a small tissue sample for pathologic evaluation.
Needle Localization Breast Biopsy
Mammography and localized breast biopsy helps physicians locate and mark the area of concern preoperatively for the surgeon.
MRI-Guided Core Breast Biopsy
Advanced imaging technology, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), guides the physician in obtaining a small tissue sample for pathologic evaluation. This is especially helpful when subtle signs of cancer cannot be seen on mammography or ultrasound. (Available at the Pacific Campus and St. Luke’s Campus.)
