Guided Imagery and Relaxation for Surgery Patients
Guided imagery is the process of focusing the mind, accessing intuition, exploring emotions and deepening inner awareness.
Research has indicated that guided imagery can reduce anxiety, decrease pain and shorten length of hospital stays. Studies have also shown that patients who are calm and relaxed recover more quickly from surgery.
The Institute for Health & Healing,
in cooperation with Surgical Services at California Pacific Medical Center, provides surgical patients with a relaxation and imagery CD. This tool is designed to evoke images supportive of surgery preparation and recovery. It will guide you in a meditation to focus your mind and explore your inner awareness.
A downloadable MP3
file of the CD:Guided Imagery & Relaxation for Surgery Patients ©2004 Institute for Health & Healing is available here.
Please note: Guided imagery is a therapeutic tool--not a substitute for medical treatment. Do not listen to the CD while driving or operating machinery.
The Institute's Health & Healing Center
will provide patients with a copy of the CD prior to surgery. Call us at 415-600-1311 (Monday-Friday 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.). A free CD will be mailed to you.
We also offer one-on-one guided imagery sessions, free holistic nurse consultations and appointments with integrative medicine physicians.
