Neuromuscular Disease Clinical Research
The basic science and clinical research programs at the Center are dedicated to finding a cause and cure for ALS and are at the international forefront of ALS research. The Center has fully equipped laboratory "bench" research facilities, staffed by leading neuroscientists and neurologists renowned in the fields of molecular and cellular studies necessary to unravel the nervous system changes, which lead to ALS. On-site basic research studies allow the Center a unique advantage in directly applying new laboratory findings, when appropriate, to clinical use for the benefit of ALS patients living with the disease today.
Research, including clinical drug trials, is an important part of fighting the war against ALS. The Forbes Norris Center is dedicated to finding the cure to ALS but we can't do it without our patients. This Center has a large staff working in research.
Participation is your choice
Whether or not you participate in our research studies or clinical trials is a personal choice and medical decision. Our efforts to keep you informed helps in making that decision. Please let us know if you are interested in participating in any of our current research studies. To find out more about participation in clinical trials contact Dallas Forshew, Research Coordinator at (415) 600-3938 or e-mail Dallas at: forshed@sutterhealth.org.
Current Research Studies
The ALS scientific and clinical community is very excited about the strides being made in research. Several potential ALS treatments are in clinical trials to evaluate efficacy. We remain hopeful that the results will be positive.
Participation in the North American ALS Patient Care Database is an important aspect where everyone diagnosed with ALS can help. By simply filling out the in depth information form we hope to improve the standard of care for ALS by disseminating information related to medications, medical practices and procedures physicians are currently using with success in the United States.
