Introduction

I am the scientific director of an integrated citywide graduate medical education program in radiation oncology. My radiobiology laboratory is located at California Pacific Medical Center Research Institute. Our research work includes study of novel second-generation taxanes, development of new anticancer and chemoradiosensitizing agents, and investigation of mechanisms of drug action. One lead and promising taxol analog we studied is TL 139 that is now entering a phase I clinical trial. We are interested in the study of molecular mechanisms of striking action of TL 139 and other exciting compounds in overcoming the problem of multidrug resistance of cancer cells.
