At the California Pacific Medical Center Research Institute, investigators place special emphasis on applying the most fundamental discoveries in the basic biomedical sciences to prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease.
Research Institute scientists have been engaged in the development of drugs to treat opportunistic infections in AIDS, in the investigation of cellular immune response to M. tuberculosis and cloned mycobacterial antigens, and in the study of the contribution of genetic factors in breast cancer. Research Institute programs also explore the application of gene therapies to cancer and other diseases, neurobiology of pain and the basic mechanisms of neuromuscular diseases.
