Susan E. Hankinson, Sc.D
Susan E. Hankinson, Sc.D., is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, Associate Professor of Epidemiology at the Harvard School of Public Health and Epidemiologist at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
Dr. Hankinson received her doctoral degree in epidemiology from the Harvard School of Public Health. For the last decade, her research has focused on the role of endogenous hormones in the etiology and prediction of breast and ovarian cancers in women, including exploring lifestyle and genetic factors that may influence hormone levels. This focus reflects a broad interest in the development and use of biomarkers in epidemiology. Her primary research base is the Nurses’ Health Study (NHS) and Nurses’ Health Study II (NHSII), two large prospective cohort studies in women. She leads efforts to evaluate biochemical predictors of breast cancer risk in these two ongoing studies. Her research is funded primarily through several R01’s and a P01 from the National Cancer Institute, with additional funding from the Department of Defense Breast Cancer Research Program. She has published over 200 scientific papers.
