RETREATS

There are four retreats held each year:

R-1 Appreciation Day

This usually occurs during the first week of October, when San Francisco weather is at its best, at Crissy Field, next to San Francisco Bay. The Program Directors barbeque for the interns while the interns play frisbee, soccer or football or just chill out and enjoy each other's company.

R-2 Retreat in the Presidio

This occurs in December and focuses on teaching kills, achieving professional milestones, reflecting on the first one-half of residency, program improvement, and enjoying each other's company.

R-3 Retreat in the Presidio

This occurs in December or January and focuses on career goals, program improvement, teaching and reflection on medicine. There is fascinating 2 hour panel of attending physicians from various general and sub-specialty fields who discuss their careers and answer questions from the R-3s.

Categorical R-1 "How to be an R-2" Retreat

This retreat takes place in May at the Ralston-White Retreat amidst the Mount Tamalpais redwood trees in Mill Valley.

This retreat focuses on preparing R-1s for the challenging transition into the role of teacher, leader, team manager and go-to person. It is also another chance for the R-1s to reflect on their intern year as it draws to a close.
