Directors and Chief Residents
David Jacobson, MD, Sara Swenson, MD & Paul Aronowitz, MD with 2008-2009 Chief Residents.

Program Director Introduction

Paul Aronowitz, M.D., F.A.C.P.

Welcome to the California Pacific Medical Center Internal Medicine Residency site! First of all, let me say that you will gather the best information from our Frequently Asked Questions section, and sense of community about our residency by reviewing our newsletter, Riprap, and speaking with our residents. Our newsletter is an annual publication due out in early January of each academic year. You'll have a chance to talk with residents if you visit us for a clerkship month or when you are on the "interview trail."

Why would Dartmouth Medical School fly its students across the U.S. to do Internal Medicine and other core clerkships if it didn’t offer everything a university program has and more? See Dartmouth Medical School affiliation with CPMC to learn more.

I will distill all things I could possibly say to you about the program down to just a few sentences in this small space. Our Internal Medicine (preliminary and categorical) program distinguishes itself on four major fronts. One, there is a strong sense of community here; two, there is a tremendous patient diversity; three, the clinical teaching is excellent; and four, despite the demands of residency education and patient care, our residents are consistently VERY happy as people and VERY satisfied with their training.

The diversity of our patients is both in terms of race and ethnicity and also in cases that you will hear about and manage. The teaching is done by 100% dedicated clinicians who teach because they love to work with residents and students. Our program, to use the words I so often hear used by visiting students and our own residents, is a “hidden gem.”

In an age where optimally learning medicine in an academic, diverse environment with diverse patients and colleagues while maintaining balance as a human being is so important, CPMC cannot be topped!

I hope you will review this website and our newsletter, and will apply here!
