    Internal Medicine Residency Program

    Chair Introduction

    Lory Wiviott, MD, FACP

Welcome to the California Pacific Medical Center Internal Medicine Residency site! We are very proud of the outstanding training we provide to both categorical and preliminary Internal Medicine Residents and hope that this site will give you a flavor for what makes our program special. The site also provides links to our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ), the housestaff newsletter (Riprap) and other great resources. Of course, we hope that you will also visit us for a clerkship or interview to get the ‘real story” by speaking with our great residents.

The key things you need to know about our program are fourfold. First, we are a community based program and promote a great sense of esprit de corps amongst our residents. Second, and quite unique for a community-based program, is that we offer a highly enriched academic environment, supported by a dedicated faculty of great teachers, high-level tertiary and quaternary programs, and a growing relationship with Dartmouth Medical School which is a terrific story in it’s own right (read more at Dartmouth Medical School affiliation with CPMC).Third, we see a tremendous diversity of patients for you to learn from, ranging from common community acquired illnesses to “fascinomas” deriving from our referral based programs and location near the Pacific rim, with the associated multi-cultural populations that seek care here. Finally, we promote a culture of warmth, respect and support for our housestaff. Residency training is intrinsically demanding and challenging enough, and it is our goal to guide you toward a career as an outstanding physician in your chosen field without compromising your human values.

If your goal is to learn medicine in a strong academic environment with diverse patients and great colleagues, while maintaining balance as a human being, CPMC cannot be topped. We invite you to discover the training program our residents call a “hidden gem!” So explore deep into our website, visit us for a clerkship and of course, apply here for your training!
