Internal Medicine Residency Program
Catherine (Carie) Chin-Garcia, MD,
Associate Program Director &
Associate Director, Adult Medicine
Dr. Catherine (Carie) Chin-Garcia is excited for you to learn more about CPMC’s Internal Medicine Residency program. A bit about her- she is a bay area native, having grown up in Palo Alto. She attended University of California, San Diego for her undergraduate education and then headed north to Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon for medical school. She learned about CPMC from this very website and was happy to attend CPMC for residency where she was selected graduating Resident of the Year and served as chief resident. Dr. Chin-Garcia then completed geriatric fellowship training at the University of California, San Francisco. After working at Palo Alto Medical Foundation as an internal medicine physician, she returned to CPMC’s Family Health Center as core faculty for the residency program in 2012. She states that working closely with the residents is the highlight of her work and feels privileged to work with a great team in graduate medical education now as one of the Associate Program Directors.
Her interests include all areas of internal medicine, medical education, resident wellbeing and career development, interdisciplinary care, healthcare economics, use of social networks in healthcare and cross-cultural health perceptions. She loves spending time with her family and friends- which usually involves eating good food and enjoying all that the Bay Area has to offer.
