    Internal Medicine Residency Program

    The Internal Medicine residency at California Pacific Medical Center features a high level of patient care responsibility in an academic, University-affiliated hospital environment. Program graduates are well equipped for careers in primary care, hospital-based practice or further training in subspecialty medicine.

    A total of 28 first-year positions are offered, 14 in the one-year Preliminary Program and 14 in the three-year Categorical Program. We usually have 28 second and third year residents and 3 Chief Medical Residents (R4s).

    Program highlights:

    • University affiliated: third-year core clerkship rotation site for Dartmouth medical students and electives for UCSF medical students
    • Tertiary referral center for Sutter affiliated hospitals: complex patient cases, advanced medical and surgical therapy, heart/renal/liver transplant capacity
    • 100% fellowship matching rate in 2016-2017 to top programs: Stanford, UCSF, UCLA
    • 100% job placement to Bay Area primary care and hospitalist positions in 2017 graduating class
    • Structured QI curriculum and numerous QI project opportunities with access to Sutter database
    • Competitive representation in regional ACP, national ACP with winners in clinical vignettes and QI project
    • Modified block schedule: increased outpatient time with longitudinal curriculum and protected inpatient services for senior residents
