Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine Fellowship Program
Introduction
The fellowship in Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine at California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC) and Alameda County Medical Center (ACMC) strives to provide participating residents the highest quality training in providing compassionate, evidence-based, high-quality, cost-effective care to adults. Residents will have the opportunity to manage both inpatients and outpatients that exhibit the full spectrum of pulmonary diseases and critical care patients from a variety of disciplines including medicine, surgery, transplantation, trauma, neurology, neurosurgery, cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, and obstetrics. This experience will take place in an educational setting under appropriate supervision by qualified attending physicians. CPMC and ACMC have collaborated to provide a fellowship program that provides the ultimate in variety of patient exposure.
California Pacific Medical Center is one of the largest private, not-for-profit, academic medical centers in California. California Pacific is recognized as a tertiary referral center providing advanced medical care with a patient-centered focus. CPMC has three campuses located throughout the city of San Francisco. All CPMC rotations in the fellowship will be located at the Pacific Campus. This campus has a full range of critical care units (medical, surgical, cardiac, and transitional) as well inpatient medical and surgical wards and the necessary supporting services including radiology, interventional radiology, nuclear medicine and laboratory services. The California Campus hosts all obstetrical and pediatric services as well as being the location for the Family Health Center and a large skilled nursing facility. The Davies Campus hosts a full range of facilities including inpatient medical and surgical wards, a combined medical/surgical critical care unit, operating room, an acute rehabilitation ward, and a large skilled nursing facility.
California Pacific offers independent and affiliated residency programs in internal medicine, ophthalmology, psychiatry, radiation oncology, general surgery, orthopedic surgery, and pediatrics.
CPMC also has an active postdoctoral education program that promotes the development and education of fellows engaged in assorted subspecialties including pulmonary and critical care medicine, cardiology, gastroenterology, neurology, plastic surgery, hand surgery, hand and microsurgery, retina, glaucoma, aphaeresis, and shoulder arthroscopy.
Alameda County Medical Center is located in Oakland and its mission is to maintain and improve the health of all Alameda County residents, regardless of their ability to pay. ACMC offers residency programs in Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Primary Care, Surgery, and Oral-Maxillofacial Surgery, and a one-year transitional internship. The residency programs are located at the Highland Hospital Campus. As a public hospital located in one of the most diverse urban counties in the nation with a busy trauma center and many clinics, ACMC serves a mix of patients with complex medical problems. Each residency program has an outstanding full-time teaching and research faculty.
