Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine Case-Based Conference
Weekly: Every Thursday 12:00 – 1:00pm
Pulmonary Conference Room
Every Thursday at noon is the pulmonary/critical care case conference. Drs. Charles MacDonald, Frank Delen, and Ivan Cheng will decide on what cases are to be presented at this conference. At this point, the second Thursday of every month will be designated for a critical care case and all the other Thursday conferences will be designated for pulmonary cases. For the pulmonary-based conferences, the pulmonary consult fellow will be asked to review one or more topics prior to the conference based on the cases to be presented. During the conference, a case will be introduced with supporting laboratory and radiographic studies and the fellows will be asked to provide their opinions regarding differential diagnosis and appropriate work-up. For the critical care-based conference, a fellow will be expected to review the clinical course of an ICU patient, answering appropriate questions regarding evaluation and management, and then provide a literature review of a specific topic. All efforts will be made to vary the cases presented throughout the year for the case-based conferences to provide a broad exposure for the fellows.
Core Curriculum Conference
Weekly: Every Wednesday 12:00 –1:00pm and select Mondays 12:00 – 1:00pm
Pulmonary Conference Room
The core curriculum conference consists of lectures covering core topics in the field of pulmonary and critical care medicine. The format of most of the conferences is that lectures are chosen from the American Thoracic Society “State of the Art” lecture series. The latter part of the conference consists of a discussion of board review questions regarding the same topic. Several of the core curriculum conferences are designated pathology conferences, where cytology and histology slides of specific disease states are reviewed with a pathologist as well as a discussion of the clinical aspects of the disease state.
ICU Conference
Weekly: Every Tuesday and Thursday, 1:30 – 2:30pm
Enright Room
The ICU Conference is a rotating series of lectures provided by the Critical Care attending staff for residents and fellows rotating through the intensive care unit. Dr. Ivan Cheng organizes this lecture series.
