Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine Case-Based Conference

Every Thursday at noon is the pulmonary/critical care case conference. Faculty and fellows will decide on cases to be presented. At this point, the second Thursday of every month will be designated for a critical care case and all the other Thursday conferences will be designated for pulmonary cases. For the pulmonary-based conferences, the pulmonary consult fellow will be asked to review one or more topics prior to the conference based on the cases to be presented. During the conference, a case will be introduced with supporting laboratory and radiographic studies and the fellows will be asked to provide their opinions regarding differential diagnosis and appropriate work-up. For the critical care-based conference, a fellow will be expected to review the clinical course of an ICU patient, answering appropriate questions regarding evaluation and management, and then provide a literature review of a specific topic. All efforts will be made to vary the cases presented throughout the year for the case-based conferences to provide a broad exposure for the fellows. The fourth conference of each month is a pathology based conference with the expectation that at least three cases will be presented by the fellows in conjunction with a review of radiology and pathology with a member of the Department of Pathology in attendance.
