Frequently Asked Questions

The Health Sciences Library provides resources and services to staff, students and faculties of California Pacific Medical Center and the University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry.

Q: How can I get a copy of an article, preferably in electronic form?

Answer: If you have the citation of the article, go to Our Journals, put in the name of the Journal in the Keyword search box, and find the journal. You will be able to tell whether the Library has the journal title and whether we have an electronic version of the title. You can use the link to the journal without an id/password if you are on the hospital network. If you are off campus, you can use your Ovid or MDConsult id/pw to obtain full text articles supplied by those vendors.

If you do not have the citation of the article, go to PubMed, select "Single Citation Matcher" from PubMed’s sidebar, put in as much information as you know and find the citation. Click on the author and the screen will expand to show you additional information including a "CPMC/UoP Full Text" icon if we have an online subscription to the title, clicking on the icon will take you to the full text article online. You may need to enter an Ovid or MdConsult id/pw if you are off campus. If you have any trouble accessing any of our electronic journals, please call us for assistance at 600-3240. We can also copy and mail you the article, or if we do not own the journal, we can obtain a copy from another library.

Use Medline to find references on the topic – use PubMed's, Medline or Ovid Medline.

Q. How do I import literature search results into EndNote and/or RefWorks?

Answer:

RefWorks

Some databases can directly export citations to RefWorks; in other databases, search citations need to be first saved as text, then be imported from RefWorks. See online RefWorks tutorial for more information.

EndNote
