Annual Volunteer Recognition Luncheon
You are the soul of the medical center
The California Pacific Medical Center’s esteemed and long-standing Volunteer Services Program came together on Monday, April 20, 2009 at the Cathedral Hill Hotel in San Francisco to recognize and thank the dedicated men and women who had each volunteered 1,000-25,000 hours of service.
Director of Volunteer Services, Carole Burns; CPMC Foundation Chair, Dick Watts; and President of Sutter West Bay Region (and former CPMC CEO), Martin Brotman, M.D. thanked the volunteers for their many hours, years and even decades of service that make such a difference to the comfort and care of CPMC’S patients.
Awards went to individuals who had volunteered 1,000, 2,000, 3,000, 4,000, 5,000, 6,000, 7,000, 10,000 and 25,000 hours! As awards were presented and memories were shared, it became clear that the work of the volunteers was cherished by Medical Center staff, administration and most of all, the patients.
Director Burns thanked The Guild of CPMC for contributing $50,000 towards the purchase of medical equipment for the Pediatrics Department, $13,000 for the interns from Galileo Health Academy, and $2,000 for wishes for handicapped children.
St. Luke’s Auxiliary was thanked for contributing $60,000 to the Kalmanovitz Child Development Center satellite program to subsidize treatment for children in need.
Carlos Vargas, a resident of St. Luke’s, was recognized for his original artwork, a water color painting titled 96,000 Rays of Sunshine which he painted to express his good wishes to CPMC volunteers and which provided the cover art for this year’s event invitation.
Finally, Bill Fox and his crafts committee were thanked for the fabulous table centerpieces and podium decorations.
Because life is precious, we encourage giving to life and a lifetime of giving.
