We Welcome You to Our Volunteer Family
Our volunteers range in age from 14 to 94 years old. Some of these volunteers are serving for the first time, while others have served for 10 years or more. We have one volunteer who has been with us for a record 60 years!

We invite you to join our California Pacific volunteer family. All we ask is that...

  • You are age 14 or over.
  • You are committed to serving a minimum of 100 hours in one year (at least 2 to 3 hours a week).
  • You obtain parental consent if you are a student (age 14 to 17).
  • You agree to a background check.
  • Receive a health clearance verifying immunity to Tuberculosis, Chicken Pox, Measles and Mumps.

5 Easy Steps to Becoming a California Pacific Volunteer
You will enjoy the process for becoming a California Pacific volunteer. It's fun and easy. All you need to do is follow these 5 easy steps...

  • Attend an orientation.*
  • You will be invited to a one-on-one interview with the volunteer services staff.
  • You will receive approval for your preferred assignment(s) by our volunteer services staff.
  • You will receive on-the-job training plus learn "where everything is located."
  • You will proudly serve in your California Pacific volunteer uniform (rented or purchased).


*To get started, you must reserve a spot at one of our ongoing orientations. Select a time that works for you and call 415-600-3402 to let us know which orientation you wish to attend.

  • Learn the latest on various health topics. Our continuing education program offers many classes you can choose from and attend. Seniors can attend our bi-monthly “Senior Brown Bag Lecture Series” for free.

  • Receive a letter of reference upon completion of your service.

There are many ways for you to serve patients and their families. We have more than 150 volunteer service descriptions for you to consider. Through these volunteer opportunities …

  • You can serve patients and their families by writing letters for the terminally ill … soothing anxious families waiting for their loved ones’ surgery … helping Alzheimer’s sufferers choose from their menu … making beds for emergency room patients … and much more.
  • You can help raise funds for special projects like women and children’s services … redecorating patient waiting areas … and the nursing education and recognition fund. You can do this by serving in the café or gift shops operated by the Guild of California Pacific Medical Center.
  • You can help provide more efficient service to patients and their families by organizing files … pulling files for patients’ appointment … or tackling computer related projects …
  • You can put your special talent to work on projects such as organizing special events for elderly patients … creating note cards to cheer up patients … and much more.

When You Are Needed
Volunteers are needed on weekdays, weekends and evenings. However, our greatest time of need is usually weekdays.
