Archibald/Ehrenberg Rehabilitation
Terrain Park

The Archibald/Ehrenberg Terrain Park is used daily both by outpatient therapy clients and by the families and patients on the inpatient units. Patients are often surprised and relieved to learn what they are capable of and are grateful to be able to practice in a safe place. Family members appreciate the opportunity to see what their loved ones can do and to learn how they can support them.

The Terrain Park, opened in 2008, was funded almost entirely by charitable contributions, including a generous donation from Dr. Kenneth C. Archibald, the former Chair of Rehabilitative Medicine at California Pacific Medical Center and is named in honor of Dr. Archibald and his deceased partner, Robert Ehrenberg.

Neuromuscular Research

Robert G. Miller, MD, Program Director of the Forbes Norris MDA/ALS Research Center has received philanthropic funding to conduct an exciting new study on the uses of lithium in the treatment of patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Dr. Miller and his staff will share their research work with the scholarly community at the ALS/MND International Symposium in November 2008.

The Forbes Norris ALS/MDA Research Center has the largest contingent attending and the greatest number of presenters of any ALS center in the world. It is costly to attend an international meeting such as this, but very important in light of the research that will be shared. Dr. Miller is very proud of the work this group has accomplished, and is pleased to count CPMC Foundation as a philanthropic partner in its success.

Stroke Care and Interventional Neuroradiology

Philanthropic gifts through CPMC Foundation support the work of Dr. Jeffrey Thomas, Medical Director of Interventional Neuroradiology, who is helping create a Neurosciences Center of Excellence at California Pacific.

With philanthropic support, the Medical Center has been able to purchase the latest equipment in preparation for the Center of Excellence. In 2008, it purchased a 64-slice LightSpeed CT scanner. This machine is the fastest on the market, allowing physicians to capture an image of an organ in one second, and scan the entire body head-to-toe in ten seconds.

Because life is precious, we encourage giving to life and a lifetime of giving.
