Ordinary people, life changing work

The Breast Cancer Recovery Program

A multidisciplinary approach to recovery

The Breast Cancer Recovery Program at California Pacific provides assistance for women undergoing treatment for breast cancer. The program is open to all women and features a multidisciplinary approach to recovery, with a nurse practitioner, social worker, nutritionist and chaplain involved in each patient's care.

Many women have benefited from generous funding to this highly successful program

Generous funding from the Notkin Family Breast Cancer Recovery Endowment has made this program possible, through which many grateful women have benefited. Through the fund's continued support, the program provided a range of patient support and concierge services in 2007:

  • Two experienced nurses provided care and guidance for the program’s participants, conducting over 80 new patient consultations and numerous follow-up visits.

  • The program’s full-time social worker aided patients with the many aspects of their diagnosis. Her support services include crisis counseling, home visits, attendance at patient procedures, support group leadership, and assistance in navigating the insurance and disability process.

  • A computerized follow-up system ensured that women undergoing treatment for breast cancer at CPMC received a hospital visit, a hand-written card sent following surgery, and an additional follow-up call 3 months after surgery.

  • Trained peer support volunteers visited surgery patients and provided them with resource materials and companionship.

  • Several specialized support groups met regularly to provide women of all ages and circumstances with a supportive community.

Because life is precious, we encourage giving to life and a lifetime of giving.
