Employee Giving Spotlight:
Anthony Klein
Employee donations truly show how valuable
California Pacific Medical Center is to our community
Anthony Klein, CPMC Employee Giving Campaign 2008 grand prize winner, tells his story of the serendipitous prize, and how Anthony and his family go Beyond Generosity.
A Perfect Prize for a Deserving Winner
Winning the 2008 CPMC Employee Giving raffle prize of a two night stay at the Grand Hyatt in San Francisco was a very nice surprise! It came at the perfect time for my wife and me. We had our first child in August of last year and we were celebrating a ten year anniversary in May, so it came as our first weekend away as a couple again. The funny thing about it was, I proposed to my wife in one of suites of the Grand Hyatt, and we spent our wedding night there, so it is one of our favorite places to stay at in the City.
It's a Family Affair
I've worked at CPMC for ten years. I started off working as a Security officer and found that I was very interested in nursing. I took pre-requisites for nursing school and started the program at San Francisco State in 2002. I finished school in 2004 and started right away in CPMC's Emergency Department, where I currently work as a charge nurse. Next month I'll be transitioning to Interventional Radiology.
My wife also works at CPMC, starting as a PBX operator, then a PCA on 6 North then a staff nurse on 6 North and is now the Oncology Co-coordinator in Outcomes Management Department. My wife's parents both worked for the hospital for twenty plus years and my sister-in-law works in the Central Processing and Distribution department.
A Sense of Pride and Duty
I've been donating to the Emergency Department because I hope that I can make a slight difference for our department when it comes to new equipment and rebuilding. Both my wife and I received a lot of assistance from co-workers, supervisors and managers while going to school and I do feel a sense of pride and duty to return the opportunities that have been given to me. Just one example of CPMC Foundation being part of my journey was when Foundation President & CEO Jerry Mapp attended the graduation party that the Security Department held for me, and congratulated me on my achievement.
Thanks again!
