Women's & Children's Health:
2013 Annual Priorities
Birthing Beds for Labor & Delivery
Total Goal: $117,000 (6 needed)
More than 6,000 babies enter the world at CPMC each year. Your gift will provide a safer, more comfortable experience for the expectant mother, as well as her labor and delivery team.
Child Life Program for the Pediatric Specialty Care Center
Child Life Specialists are experts at easing the fears of young children (and their families) while they receive medical treatment, explaining what is happening in terms kids can understand. Your gift will help fund another one of these invaluable specialists to help children receiving outpatient specialty care.
3D Digital Mammography Upgrade
Your gift will help make sophisticated 3D digital mammography available to more than 50,000 women every year. This could lead to earlier detection of cancers before they spread beyond the breast tissue, which has been shown to decrease five-year mortality rates from 15 percent down to just one percent.
Total Goal: $118,000 (3 needed)
Mechanical ventilators do the breathing for sick babies or those whose lungs are too immature to allow them to breathe on their own. By funding these ventilators, you can provide these babies with just the right amount of help to optimize their oxygen levels.
Perinatal Care Program
Postpartum depression and anxiety have an adverse effect on a mother’s health — and her ability to bond with her baby. It can also lead to longer-term problems for the child including sleeping difficulties, hyperactivity, and delayed development. By supporting the Perinatal Care Program, you could help as many as 1,000 local women who struggle with this condition each year.
Telemetry Fetal Monitoring Units
Total Goal: $107,000 (17 needed)
With your support, these wireless units will allow us to monitor a baby’s heart rate even while the laboring mother walks around, finds the most comfortable position in bed, or takes a shower. This freedom to move may even result in less painful labor.
