Concerned about the health of children living in the Bayview-Hunters Point neighborhood, Tipping Point Community, McKesson Foundation and United Way of the Bay Area—along with several generous individual donors—stepped forward to lay the groundwork for the California Pacific Medical Center Bayview Child Health Center. This facility provides pediatric care for boys and girls in one of San Francisco’s most medically underserved neighborhoods, one in which asthma rates are skyrocketing.

McKesson Foundation

McKesson Foundation, Inc. began its philanthropic partnership with California Pacific Medical Center in 1982. During the past 24 years, the Foundation has contributed almost $300,000 to the Medical Center. Recognizing the need to improve the delivery of health care services in some of San Francisco’s most economically disadvantaged neighborhoods, the Foundation increased its level of giving in 2007.

Currently, the McKesson Foundation, Inc. is supporting the new Bayview Child Health Center, which is a site for comprehensive, community-based, child and adolescent health services. As a result, of the McKesson Foundation’s support, the Center successfully opened in March 2007. Under the direction of Medical Director Nadine Burke M.D., the Center is actively providing highly skilled pediatric care, assisting in measurably reducing health disparities among the children of Bayview Hunters Point; working toward decreasing the number of preventable hospitalizations from ambulatory care sensitive conditions; and fostering a seamless continuum of child health resources.
