Beloved by family, friends and colleagues

On July 18, 2010, San Francisco, its gay community, and California Pacific Medical Center suffered the enormous loss of an incredible friend and dedicated physician with the unexpected passing of Brian Friedman, M.D. He was 55 years old.

A celebration of Brian Friedman’s life and service was held at CPMC's Davies Campus on March 20, 2011. We came together as a community to remember Brian, honor his legacy, and commit ourselves to following his example of compassionate service. Brian left an impression on each of us through the way he lived his life and conducted his work. Countless people are better for having had the opportunity to know him.

He provided the highest quality of care, with dignity and respect for every patient

A commemorative plaque dedicated to Brian was installed on March 20, 2011 outside the registration window of CPMC's Davies Emergency Department. Everyone who enters the ED will be greeted by Brian’s smiling face and the inscription that speaks to his legacy, setting the tone for the positive patient experience that is a hallmark of this department.

The plaque inscription reads:

California Pacific Medical Center celebrates the life and service of BRIAN FRIEDMAN, M.D.
March 20, 1955 – July 18, 2010

For 22 years, Dr. Brian Friedman served as the Medical Director of the Davies Campus Emergency Department. Brian embodied a spirit of caring and compassion that touched the lives of his patients and colleagues alike. In his years of service, Brian’s kindness, authenticity, humor and skill became legendary. Brian was the heart and soul of the Davies Campus Emergency Department, and he dedicated his life to providing the highest quality medical care while making certain that each and every member of our community was treated with dignity, respect, and compassion.
