Your contribution will touch the lives of many grateful patients

Late in 1999, San Francisco resident Joel Shaffer caught a bad respiratory infection. After it was over, one symptom persisted: His voice was hoarse. "The specialist at CPMC took one look and knew that something was seriously wrong," he says. "There was a growth on my vocal cords that needed to be biopsied right away."

Fortunately for Joel, his disease was detected early and had not spread to nearby lymph nodes. He underwent outpatient surgery, followed by state-of-the-art radiation therapy to make sure no cancer cells remained. Joel's treatment was a complete success, and today, he is cancer-free,

I'm asking you today to make a tax-deductible gift of $25, $50, $75, $100, or more to California Pacific Medical Center Foundation. We put donors' charitable donations to work meeting the most serious and urgent health needs of our community. Cancer is among our highest funding priorities.

One out of every three Americans will develop cancer at some point in our lives. Cancer has now surpassed heart disease as the top killer of Americans younger than 85.

In response to this situation, California Pacific Medical Center has created a wide array of outstanding cancer programs and services. Our physicians also participate in leading-edge clinical research to improve methods of diagnosis and treatment used throughout the world.

We rely on contributions to help us invest in the latest technologies and recruit some of the top cancer physicians in the nation. Your help is crucial to ensure that California Pacific continues to take advantage of new clinical advances as soon as they become available.

We'll be deeply grateful for any amount you are able to give.

Sincerely,

Jerry W. Mapp
President Emeritus
