CPMC Foundation launches inaugural “Leadership Council”

“Women and children’s services are the heart of the Medical Center,” concluded CPMC’s Women & Children’s Leadership Council, formed in June 2011 after a tour of the California campus. During this session, they toured the Pediatric Emergency Department, heard how “Child Life” professionals normalize time in the hospital for kids in intensive care, learned about new avenues in maternal-fetal health, and were particularly affected by hearing doctors speak about the compassionate, family-centered approach to treating patients that brought them to CPMC.

The Council brings together volunteers who are committed to issues in women and children’s health —such as treatment options for post-partum depression and pro-active asthma screenings for children— to learn more about CPMC’s leading-edge services and ultimately advocate for community support of the Medical Center.

Several members remarked on how fitting it is that this group of women is continuing the work begun by the female founders of the former Children’s Hospital (which later became CPMC’s California campus). As Council member Stacey Case puts it, “Women have always advocated for compassionate care for families.”

Leadership Councils for additional areas of the Medical Center will be forming in the future.
