Advanced and specialized care

In 1857, the site which would become our Pacific Campus housed the very first Medical School in the West. The founder of the school, Elias S. Cooper, M.D., was also responsible for many other medical “firsts”: the first successful Caesarean birth in California, the first use of chloroform in San Francisco surgery, alcohol dressings to prevent infection, and corrective procedures for clubfoot. Some also credit Dr. Cooper with being “the father of medical research in the West.”

The Pacific Campus became California Pacific’s base for acute inpatient care in the mid-1990’s, and through the years, advanced specialized care such as cardiac and transplant became headquartered there as well, including the Kanbar Cardiac Center and unique intensive care units.

Because life is precious, we encourage giving to life and a lifetime of giving.
