Mark Kimbell Named President
of CPMC Foundation
On September 14, 2009, Mark Kimbell was named as the new President of California Pacific Medical Center Foundation, the philanthropic arm of CPMC, replacing its long-serving leader Jerry Mapp. Kimbell is also taking on the newly created position of Vice President of Philanthropy for Sutter West Bay Region. Mapp will work part-time as President Emeritus of CPMC Foundation, cultivating donor relations that he has built up over his more than two decades with the institution.
Kimbell comes to CPMC Foundation from The Methodist Hospital System in Houston, Texas, where he established a reputation as an inspirational leader and a skilled fundraiser as the senior vice president and executive director of The Methodist Hospital Foundation. Starting in 2003 he built a fundraising team from scratch, increasing the hospital’s fundraising from under one million dollars a year to more than $20 million.
“This is a wonderful honor,” says Kimbell. “CPMC Foundation has a great reputation and I’m just delighted to be able to work with such a talented, dedicated group of people. Judging by the results, Jerry Mapp and the CPMC Board of Trustees created a remarkably successful program over two decades. I’m fortunate to inherit their legacy, and I look forward to the exciting, and challenging, times ahead.”
Before joining Methodist, Kimbell was executive director of Development at Rice University, and president of Children’s Memorial Foundation in Chicago. He also served for three years as senior vice president at Grenzebach, Glier & Associates, one of the top fundraising consulting firms in the U.S. Kimbell also served on the board of directors for the Children’s Miracle Network.
“Our country is going through big changes right now, both in health care and how philanthropy can help transform it,” says Kimbell. “At the Foundation we are committed to the idea that change is really only worthwhile when it improves the lives of our patients. I will do everything I can to make sure we live up to that commitment.”
