Background
Adil (Ed) Wakil, M.D. is a hepatologist and Associate Chief, Division ofHepatology, and Director of Operations for the San Francisco Center for Liver Disease at California Pacific Medical Center. He began his medical training at University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas and completed his gastroenterology fellowship at UCSF. He remained on faculty at UCSF as an attending physician on the liver transplant service and pursued his research interests in basic immunology. Dr. Wakil continues to be active in research studies that investigate the human immune response to infectious diseases. His major clinical interest is viral hepatitis. He has lectured widely, educating health communities in Northern California regarding liver disease. He is also active internationally in advancingpublic health science in several developing countries. He speaks Spanish and French. Dr. Wakil is board-certified in internal medicine, gastroenterology and transplant hepatology.
