Learning About Diabetes
Proper control and management of your diabetes can significantly reduce complications of diabetes – including eye disease, kidney disease and nerve damage.
Training for Individuals & Families. Our staff teaches you how to take action to prevent the serious and often life-threatening complications of diabetes, in a series of individual sessions.
- Blood sugar monitoring (glucose meter)
- Meal planning, basic nutrition and weight management
- Managing medications
- Foot care
- Managing complications
- Managing sick days

Diabetes Checklist: Do You Have Diabetes?
If you have TWO or more of these symptoms, you could have diabetes. If you have diabetes, it can be treated with diet, exercise and medication.
- Extreme thirst
- Frequent urination
- Extreme weight gain or loss
- Tiredness
- Blurred vision
- Slow healing cuts or sores
- Frequent infections
- Overweight

Who gets Diabetes?
21,000 people in San Francisco have diabetes.
You are more likely to get diabetes if you are:
- Over 40
- Black, Hispanic or Native American
- Overweight
- Family history (if someone in your family has diabetes)

Quality Diabetes Center Staff
Our professional, bilingual staff of nurses and dieticians works closely with referring primary care physicians to help patients manage symptoms and care for diabetes. 
We assist with referrals to specialists, including podiatrists, endocrinologists and ophthalmologists.
We speak English and Spanish, and offer translators for other languages.
