The Health Champion's MOVE Program is a Pediatric Weight Management Program comprised of two components:
1. MOVE Clinic: Provides a multidisciplinary team approach to evaluate potential medical causes of pediatric obesity and identify and treat complications that arise from a child's overweight status. Our vision is to provide a supportive, welcoming environment, in which a team of medical professionals will work as partners with families to achieve lifestyle changes. Patients are seen by a pediatrician, pediatric endocrinologist, nutritionist and child psychologist. All pediatric patients ages 2- 18 years with a Body Mass Index at or above the 85th percentile may be referred to the clinic. Patients will have regular follow-up for at least six months and be seen in the Pediatric Specialty Clinic at 3700 California St, B555 in San Francisco.
2. MOVE Classes: Behaviorally-focused, group education classes for overweight children, ages 8-12 years, and their families, with special attention paid to cultural and ethnic differences in weight and eating behaviors. This community-based program will feature weekly classes for both children and their families; a three-month pilot clinic will be held at the Chinatown Public Health Center at California Pacific, beginning in September 2007.
