California Pacific is at the forefront in using minimally invasive techniques—including robotics—in neonatal, pediatric and adult congenital heart surgery. Under the leadership of Surgeon Michael D. Black, M.D. (recently named one of the Best Doctors in America® for 2007-2008 in the field of thoracic surgery), our goal is to perform “touch free” surgery.
“Touch-free” surgery, which uses very small incisions to perform cardiovascular procedures, benefits children and adults both physically and emotionally. Typically, patients are only hospitalized for one to three days. They leave the hospital with a small, two-inch incision as the only reminder of their complex surgery. Additionally, “touch-free” surgery reduces postoperative pain significantly, and the multitude of blood tests and chest X-rays typically needed with open-heart surgery.
For patients undergoing heart surgery at California Pacific, we provide family-centered care, focusing on the needs of both the patient and their family during the hospital stay. Families commend us for the attentive care we provide. For pediatric families, we invite you to tour our Pediatric Unit.
