Pediatric Emergency Department
California Pacific Medical Center's Pediatric Emergency Department is designed for children ages birth to 18. Equipped for both serious injuries or minor illness, we are staffed by doctors who are board-certified in both pediatrics and emergency medicine. Child-sized equipment, private rooms, and Child Life staff who help children cope with emergencies make all the difference when dealing with a crisis.

Designed for Children & Families
Designed for children and families, the six private rooms in the Pediatric Emergency Department offer a welcoming atmosphere with child-focused decor. Each room is outfitted with the most advanced, child-sized medical equipment, a DVD player and television. Additionally, the emergency rooms can accommodate family members who provide a valuable source of emotional support.
Most importantly, because our waiting room serves only the Pediatric Emergency Department, children enjoy the company of other children, versus adults with serious medical emergencies.
"Kid Helpers" Put Families at Ease
Our team recognizes that a hospital visit can be frightening, and we work with each patient and family to make the experience as comfortable as possible.
Child Life staff at the Pediatric Emergency Department use medical kits, puppets and other toys to prepare children for medical procedures. Because medical procedures and illness can be challenging for children and families, California Pacific is unique among Bay Area hospitals in that we provide Child Life staff in the Emergency Department. This team, known as our "Kid Helpers," prepares children for medical procedures and helps explain what they will experience. Some coping techniques our kid helpers use include bubbles, songs, art and puppets.
